my excel says fatal error during installation

March 4, 2011 at 16:56:41
Specs: Windows XP
I'm trying to get into my excel program but a window saying fatal error during installation keeps appearing on the screen. I don't have CD's as it all came installed when I purchased in 2004. This laptop still runs great. I didn't uninstall or install anything. I signed on yesterday morning and it wouldn't sign on telling me it couldn't find my file but I managed to sign on and everything was okay until I tried to get into my excell today. What should I do and how can I get my files back.

Try installing OpenOffice.org. It supports Microsoft Office files, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. I recommend using it because it is easy to use and it is free.

My laptop specs:
Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5974
AMD Sempron 2200 (2.1GHz)
3GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics
ATI SB600 Audio
500GB SATA II Hitachi HDD

Try doing a Repair:

Select Start
Select Control Panel
Select Add or Remove Programs

Scroll down to the MS Excel / Office entry
Click on the entry and there should be two buttons, select the Change
Select the Repair option
