Solved MS-Office 2007 keeps reconfiguring in Windows 10

Specs: Windows 10 64bit, I8 GB
We had extensive lightning damage and I had to buy a new laptop ASUS VivoBook which has Windows 10 64.bit on it. Microsoft is very aggressive in pushing it's Windows 10 programs. E.g. even if I set Google Chrome as the default browser, it turns the default to Edge.

I installed my MS-Office 2007 on it, but every time I open a 2007 file (xlsx, docx) it has to configure 2007, even if I had previously opened it in the same session. Is there something wrong ? Tried Libreoffice but then I could not save as a PDF which I use for filing my documents. After I opened a MSO 2007 file in Libreoffice I could not open it again in MSO 2007. I restored the four files I had opened in Libreoffice to real docx and xlsx files by copying the contents and pasting them in Excel and Word. Is there no way to get around the "configuring" of MS-Office 2007, which everytime takes a long time. Are there better free alternatives to MSO 2007 ? I looked at Google Docs, but the privacy of Google is not too good I think. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you

From M$-land it seems it’s supposed to be ok with win-10 in compatibility mode, as per...

With Libre Office you export the file as pdf.

If you run a google trawl/search using the string/words

libre office for windows 10 and save files as pdf

You’ll get quite a few returns related to this item, including a few YouTube videos...

"Microsoft is very aggressive in pushing it's Windows 10 programs"
Have not experienced that on any comps I've worked on, though I always skip getting an MS account, during the install.
In other words I always set comps up to use Local account.

Never had that happen, on any W10 comp.
Start > Settings > Apps > scroll down to > Change app defaults, click on > Open Default app settings > Set defaults by app > click on Chrome or Google Chrome > Manage.
Now make sure all entries are set as default.

I use SoftMaker FreeOffice
