I am using Outlook 2016 -- Outlook is duplicating contacts. I don't know why it is doing this. How can I stop the duplicates from being created?

All contacts or just some? New ones or existing ones?

The more detail you provide, the better the chance that someone might be able to help.

Long shot:

Do you have more than one Gmail account set up within Outlook?

I've seen Gmail duplicate contacts on my Android phone when the contact exists under multiple Gmail accounts.

if i search for a name in outlook contacts on my PC... example. Valerie's will show up multiple time (4 times) with the same last name.
I am using outlook to connect to my Verison email. I have the email coming to a PST file on my computer. When I download my mail to my computer, they will disappear from the server. I am only synching with Verizon email server... Nothing else.

Still don't know if that happens for all the contacts or just some of them.

If it's just some, like Valerie, then maybe they're using multiple accounts to send emails and they're saved as contacts on the same name?

Eg.
- Valerie email 1: valerie.valerie@abc.com
- Valerie email 2: valerie.sand@zzz.com
- Valerie email 3: cute123@gmail.com
- Valerie email 4: sand.valerie@yahoo.com

Removing duplicate contact manually is not an easy task. You can try tools like Outlook Duplicates Remover to remove duplicate contacts.

If you open your Contacts and change to Business Card view, are you seeing duplicates? You haven't really said where exactly you're searching.
