Upgrading from Office Enterprise to Office Pro Plus finally solved the unexpected shutdown problem.

ALL of the suggestions were VERY good and I learned a lot from them. Many thanks to all who answered.

Possibly run a repair routine for Office 2007; as there may be a corrupt or otherwise application file?

This how to may be of help:

Thanks VERY much for the information. I ran the Diagnostic but it didn't find any problems.

Since the computer came with Windows and Office preinstalled, and did not include disks, I'm guessing that my best bet is to buy a new copy of Office 2007 and install it?

Try running a Repair from Control Panel.

I'm still on Win 7 so not sure what the steps are for Win 10
but once you get to the Control Panel
select Uninstall Program,
select your Office program
and on Win 7, on the top line of the list you should see a Change button,
select Change,
then select Repair.

I didn't accept Win 10 when it was FREE, and I certainly would never BUY all that spyware. I'm using Win 7.

I ran the Repair Diagnostic (THANK YOU for the directions!) and it made no difference.

My spouse informed me that she has MS Office Professional Plus, and she has several installations left, so she let me have one. I installed Pro Plus over my MS Office Enterprise, and it made no difference.

If I click the Office Button after saving my file, it will not allow me to save the file in a second location (backup). It immediately closes the file and closes the whole !@#$% program.

You may have a corrupt registry entry that never got fixed with the upgrade to Office Professional,

Try doing another uninstall / reinstall but use Geek Uninstaller, which is freeware

https://geekuninstaller.com/

Geek will remove a lot of the flotsam & jetsam that the regular installer leaves behind, I have it on my machine.

There are several other uninstallers that are also pretty good, like Revo and IObit Uninstaller

There is also a MS page that might help, it's focus is not your specific problem, but might worth the try:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...

Try and see if it helps.
