Move items in a column to a new column (not manually)

Specs: Windows XP, 1.6 GHZ / 3 GIG
I have exported data into Excel that shows up in one column - student name and ID# with the courses they signed up for listed underneath. I need a column for student name and one for each department so each class will list under its department. Can someone help me? Thank you.

Please click on the following line and read the instructions on how to post example data in this forum. Then post an example of the data that you have and the results that you are looking for. Actually seeing what we are working with makes it much easier to offer a takes the guess-work out. Thanks!

Thanks for your response - as I look at my file I see it just won't work to convert rows to columns. I'll have to think of something else.
