Microsoft Outlook 2007: Can't reinstall

April 16, 2012 at 12:31:58
Specs: Windows XP
Can’t reinstall Outlook 2007. It went bad and I have been using Outlook Express OK but I can’t reinstall Outlook from my original CD (Microsoft Office Basic 2007). I have no Outlook desktop icon and when I click Start/All Programs I see Microsoft Office with just the Office Tools, Word, and Excel subfolders. I tried reinstalling Outlook from my original CD (which is supposed to have Word, Excel, and Outlook) but when I click “Add or Remove Features” the box for Microsoft Office Outlook has a red “X” in it and when I select Outlook and hit Continue, it runs a configuration but nothing changes after the progress bar finishes and I reboot. I tried running the Repair option from the CD but again after the taskbar finishes nothing changes again. I never did anything to the CD. How can I reinstall Outlook? Thanks.

"I click “Add or Remove Features” the box for Microsoft Office Outlook has a red “X” in it and when I select Outlook and hit Continue, it runs a configuration but nothing changes"

David, you are not doing it correctly.
You must left-click the red X and choose "Run from my computer". The red X should then disappear.
Now you can click "Continue".

Thanks but I right-clicked, left-clicked, double-clicked, etc the red X but nothing happened. I will now remove Word and Excel from the computer and try to reinstall all three programs.
