Do you mean the Gateway restore disks?

How did you get Windows installed again without disk #1?

Is the version of Microsoft office you have one that came on your computer, or a retail version?

I am not sure how it was done, but word, excel and pub are on my computer but to transfer the items inside, I need the two discs to do that. I get a default when I attempt to open them up from before when I had them. Does that make sense?

They were on the computer orginially when I purchased it, custom made, years back.

Gateway computers are not custom made. They may be custom configured but they are still an OEM mass vendor.

If your version of Microsoft Office included all the programs you mentioned then it is probably a full version. If you lost the disk for the core programs then you probably don't have the installation key (number) either. Without that, you will need to buy a new copy of Office.

Do you currently have Windows up and running?

What happened to the hard drive you were using?

Do you have the installation code? Does disk #2 state what version of Office you have?

I will attempt to clarify.. I guess mine was custom confirgured when I first bought it.

My computer was running very slow and I could hardly get it to work so I had a tech replace the motherboard, I believe and everything else works from my old programs, except it will not allow me to open and retrieve my old information from word, excel and pub. I get to the opening and it says I need to get the two discs in order to retieve that information. It does not make a whole lot of sense as they are on my desk top screen.
The disc 2 says it is Publisher 98 and it is Mircrosoft Office 97 Small Business Edition..I have all of the original information. information i.e applicatioinsdrivers, operating system, certificate of authenticiity with Proudct Id numbers, etc on. Does any of this make sense with the problem I am having?

I should state that I am not a computer guru but an older grandmother who wants to stay up to date with the younger more knowledgable gurus like you.

Any advice is so important to me, so thanks for even taking the time to address my e-mail.

If the MS Office files are on Disk#2, what happens when you put that disk in the CD drive.

Does it autostart.

If not, from MyComputer, look at the disk contents is there a file named Setup.exe on the disk.
If so double click it, and it should start the Office setup program.

If you browse the disk contents are there folders or files for Excel and Word, or is it just Publisher.

Good suggestion above in #5. That assumes the CD is a MS product disk. Is it, or is it Gateway?
