February 3, 2012 at 04:54:26
Specs: Windows Vista
when i use excel and wright the number 3, it is automatically converted into number 4. When i write it differently e.g. 03 or when number 3 is a part of a greater number e.g. 43, there is not any problem.

✔ Best Answer
What version of Excel?

If you using 2003, try a Detect & Repair.

On the Task Bar
Select Help
Select Detect & Repair

In 2007 do a Diagnostic:

Running Microsoft Office Diagnostics from within Excel/Word

Click the Microsoft Office button
Click on the Excel/Word Options button to bring up the Excel Options dialog box (at the bottom of window)
Click on the Resources button in the left hand pane
Click on the Diagnose button in the right hand pane
Click Continue
Click Run Diagnostics

Also, you might want to check your Auto Correct options.

In 2007

Click the Microsoft Office button
Click on the Excel/Word Options button to bring up the Excel Options dialog box (at the bottom of window)
Click on the Proofing button in the left hand pane
Click on the AutoCorrect Options button in the right hand pane

Does this happen in every sheet in every workbook, both new and old?

Click Here Before Posting Data or VBA Code ---> How To Post Data or Code.

Yes it was actually the auto correct options that caused the problem. Excel --> Excel options ---> control tools --> Auto Correct options --> i had probably by mistake set 3 to be automatically replaced by 4

thanks everyone for your replies.
