Mac Excel password-protected file won't open

Microsoft Excel 2004 for mac
October 30, 2010 at 02:44:24
Specs: Macintosh , Intel Core 2 Duo/2GB
I have a password-protected Excel file I use regularly and used last two days ago.
(Microsoft Excel for Mac 2004, v 11.6.1)
(Mac OS X on MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)
The password window flashes open but not long enough to enter the password.

I retrieved file from the last two backups, and both have the same problem. Afraid to try other password-protected files, as they are all important. Non-protected files open fine.

There was a possible Excel update this week (I didn't pay that much attention to what it was, and routinely install Mac updates without question).

Create a new file and password protect it just as test. I'm not sure what that will tell you, but it's something to try.

Thanks, but I found a resolution on another web site. It turns out that the software version 11.6.1 that I think I installed this week had a flaw, and there was a newer 11.6.2. For some reason, when I ask for a software update, my computer said I didn't need one from 11.6.1, but despite that, Microsoft had a even newer one available. Everything works now, and even another complaint I had for many months was resolved with the 11.6.2.
