A client in my network circle also seems to have this problem (I'm the host computer and there is only one other computer using my connection ) Any help would be much appreciated.

And sorry if I didn't make that clear. I'm not an expert on these thing :(

Can you explain what you are doing in detail.

What sequence of commands are you using in Word, to look up a word in the dictionary.

If the problem is within Word, the internet connection doesn't seem to be relevant unless the dictionary you are accessing is on a web site - if so, please include the web site & page address.

He means, when your use the "look up" function to search the meaning, synonym etc. of a word, there is an enormous delay period before any results pop up. I'm experiencing the same issue. To activate the "look up" function, you right click on the desired word and select the "look up" function, then a side panel pops up and researches the word, using references from dictionaries and thesauruses. there is no websites or addresses involved. It's just something you use on Microsoft word.

You said there is no websites or addresses involved

The 'Research pane' functions use a range of web sites to find information - just look at the drop-down list under the 'Search for:' box.

(He means ... note that the individual who posted may be female - you can't assume that the individual was male).

If it is this research function that has slowed down, try individual research options and see if one of them is particularly slow. Your post suggest that you are using a particular dictionary.

As most Encarta services were discontinued - see this Microsoft article , if an Encarta service is one of the listed services, then there will be a delay while Word tries to find it.

The MS article includes a fix.

I am assuming that access to other web sites through your web browser is not experiencing delays - if it is it will affect this Word function.

My apologies. I stand corrected in both cases. I was mislead since Microsoft calls the Encarta and other research sources, services.

Neways, Encarta Dictionary is still functioning. Just not the other Encarta products. The slow issue for me, seems to be random. Often it is very quick and then like once every blue moon, it'll become sluggish.

Thx for taking the time to help out, Humar.
