i had a word doc that contained various links to two excel files. i moved these files to another computer...and when i open the doc in the new place the links are not updated automatically nor manually. in fact even on right clicking the objects no link information is shown. when i update the link using F9 key, the object is replaced with an error that the link is invalid. It is really urgent...can someone help
If I'm understanding correctly, both what you've described and how the links work.... I don't think you can link to documents located on a different computer. Unless the files are located in a location that is shared for both computers
quick tip that may help here- i have done the same thing. and if you create a new folder on your new computer where the excel files are stored and the word document is in the same folder too - the link will work on new computer IF IT IS the same directory name as on old computer- does this make sense? it seems word looks for the directory address in teh link and if youve changed it wont find it - so the simplest solutionis to create the same directory on new pc as on old- or jusr redo the links
