jumping cursor while typing in Word 2007

Specs: Windows 7, IntelQuadcore 2.8 GHz
Have a strange problem with MS-Word 2007. When I am typing text the cursor spontaneously jumps to another place in the already typed text. As I am not a "blind" typist, I always look where I put my fingers, this is very irritating. I initially thought that possibly I touched the UP-DOWN-RIGHT-LEFT buttons with the ouside of my hand, but it happens when I am sure I did not touch them. Using notepad I never have this problem. The problem sometimes appears when I use my laptop with win7 32bit and with my desktop that runs Win7 64bit. This never happens with Excel 2007, which I use a lot.

Can anyone help me to find the reason this happens or how it can be solved. Thank you in advance for any help

Try updating your PRINTER drivers.

Since the problems occurs on both your Laptop and Desktop,
the only thing that I can think of, that is linked to both, is your printer.

You could also try running a Diagnostic and see what it reports:

Running Microsoft Office Diagnostics from within Excel/Word

Click the Microsoft Office button
Click on the Excel/Word Options button to bring up the Excel Options dialog box (at the bottom of window)
Click on the Resources button in the left hand pane
Click on the Diagnose button in the right hand pane
Click Continue
Click Run Diagnostics

Is it the same copy of MS-Word used on both machines
or does the laptop and desktop have unique copies of the program?

Another scenario - If you are using wireless keyboard, make sure the batteries are not in need for replacement.

The laptop has its own keyboard, the PC has a wireless one and the problem appears in both. In the hope to circumvent the problem started using Notepad and paste it in Word. To my surprise it happens there too.

Am using a driver updater that does not suggest updating a printer driver .

Have followed the suggestion to use Microsoft Office's Diagnostics. No problems were found.

Have you installed any new software in both machines?

There was a possible link with this type of problem and AOL.
Do you have AOL installed?

Am using a driver updater that does not suggest updating a printer driver .

I would still suggest you take a slide by your printer makers web site and see for yourself that you have the latest drivers.
I've used some of the updater software and found that it would take time for it to realize that new update were online.

started using Notepad and paste it in Word. To my surprise it happens there too.

It's worth a try, since now it is a system problem, not just an Office one.

You could also Uninstall your printer from one of your computers
and see if that corrects the problem.

Have updated the driver of the printer I am using at the moment and the problem remains. I find that other people, some say a lot of people have this problem.

Been looking further and found touchfreeze, which disables the touchpad from moving the cursor when you accidentally touch it while typing. I'll wait and see if this helps. When it does I'll report here
