Solved Is it possible to assign numerical values to a yes/no list?

October 3, 2019 at 05:42:49
Specs: Windows 10
I have a set of yes/no questions that the user will answer and I would like to quantify their answers for a final score. In this case, some of the Yes answers need to be weighted more than others, i.e. if the user answers yes to one of the more important questions it would gain a score of 3 compared to a 1 on another question. No would be given a score of 0.

Any help would be much appreciated.

To accomplish your goal, you could assign the proper weight to each question and then use an IF formula to return that weight.

For example, you could set up something like the table below. The "Weight" and "Score" columns could be placed anywhere you want, even on another sheet, hidden, etc. so that the users don't know the weight of the questions.

You might want to use a YES/NO drop down to ensure that only those answers are entered. You also have to decide what to do if a user leaves a question blank. i.e. Is that the same of as a No or not counted, etc.

        A B C D
1 Question Weight Yes/No Score
2 Q1 2 =IF(C2="Yes",B2,0)
3 Q2 3 (Drag Formula Down)
4 Q3 1
