Instant Search stopped working-- Outlook 2010

Specs: Windows 10 Home Ver. 1607, Intel Core i3-6100@3.7 GHz
Windows 10 64-bit Dell desktop. installed Office 2016 in June 2016. Outlook 2016 working fine until sometime in the last 2 weeks. Instant Search does not find items known to contain search term. Results window reads "No results". Changing search scope to All or Unread has no effect. Changing search scope to Mentions gives messge: √Źnstant search encountered a problem while trying to display search results." Tried rebuilding index. No success
Email searching is crucial. Please help

Try re-installing just the Outlook app from your Office CD.

Is this Outlook 2010 or 2016? In Outlook 2010, go to File, Options, Search, Indexing Options. There you can see the Indexing and change/force/troubleshoot Indexing issues.

I don't currently have access to a system with Outlook 2016, but you should still be able to find that setting from the Options Menu.

thanks jennifer SUMN. This is outlook 2016. Already tried luck. Already checked that search data diectories are correctly set and that data files can be accesed with outlook user permissions. no luck.

Try the following methods to resolve the issue you are getting:

3. Reset the Indexing
4. Rebuild the Search Index
