Solved In Excel can you create a custom text format?

Specs: Windows XP
I would need to create a format for a Product ID such as:

AB12345C, 2 letters, 5 digits, then 1 letter. I know to use 0 for a digit but what about a letter?

thank you!!!

I'm a tad confused. Why do you need a custom format? Why not just enter the Product ID?

Since it's a text string (starting with a letter) it'll just stay exactly as you entered it.

What am I missing?

There is no symbol for text like there is for numbers in the Custom Format library.

Mike, thank you. I wish that MS Office would sometimes say what they "Can't do" rather than not mentioning something obvious.
Thank you again, I appreciate it!

I'm still curious as to why you want to build a custom format for your text string. Could you explain further what you are trying to do?

I'm always interested in what others are doing with Excel.
