I have a register file in Excel with thousands of rows. For example, Col A=Date, Col B=Payee, Col C=Amount. The same payees appear many times on different dates and different amounts. The entries are in Date order. Can I have a formula to give me a Running Total in Column D by Payee? This means that, for example if I am in row 250, that it should find all payees with the same name above the row in which I am and give me a total for that particular Payee. I need a formula that as soon as I add another Payee it should search all above entries with that particular name and give me a total until that particular row and then continue as I continue with upddated amounts of running totals as I continue with my entries. Past the following formula in cell D2 assuming you have your other columns arranged as described in your post with headers in the first row and data beginning in the second:
