Solved How to write a formular to to pick from 3 opts in same cell

March 18, 2015 at 17:00:00
Specs: windows 8
I need a formula to pick from 3 options "Pending, or Collected, or Transferred" in one cell (G5) based on what date is entered into 2 other cells in different columns (H5 or I5) at different times.
I would like "Pending' to change to "Collected" when the date is entered into cell H5 and then "Collected" to change to ''Transferred" when the date is entered into I5. Is this possible?
Thanks for your help.

I am assuming that there will only be a value in I5 if there is also a value in H5.

=IF(H5="","Pending",IF(AND(H5<>"",I5=""), "Collected","Transferred"))

What this says is:

1 - If H5 is empty, return Pending
2 - If H5 is not empty and I5 is empty, return Collected
3 - If both 1 and 2 are False, return Transferred

Note: As written, if H5 is empty and I5 is not empty, the formula will return Pending. Let me know if that is going to be a problem.

Hi, and yes, and after a few column adjustments the formula has worked a treat,
Thank you very much for the quick response, I have search for days for this, (not really knowing what I was looking for mind you) I need to have a better understanding of how the formulas work. Your What it says and notes make it easier to understand.
Thanks once again.
