Solved How to use Year function in Excel

Specs: Windows 7
I am using the Year function but instead of getting just the year I get 7/7/1905. It asks for the serial number and I selected the cell with the date. What am I doing wrong? I did this yesterday without any problems.

✔ Best Answer
If you want the Year to appear in the cell with the YEAR() function, then try changing the format from Date to Number.

7/7/1905 should result in 2015 when formatted as a Number.

Now I am trying to use the new row with the Number /Year data in a pivot table. I have labeled the row, but it is not showing up in the Pivot table choices.
