Assuming Excel 2007 or later, look at the COUNTIFS function...

=COUNTIFS($C$4:$C$48,"Barb",$E$4:$E$48,"Y")

✔ Best Answer
What version of Excel are you using?
If you have 2007 or later then what you need is the =COUNTIFS() function.

Try this:

=COUNTIFS(C4:C48,"barb",E4:E48,"y")
