How to save documents to Word Documents in Windows 10?

Specs: Windows10
When I try to save a document in Word Documents, Windows 10 tells me I cannot save in that category, I must save it in a folder. I need to save in Word. How can I fix that?

I'm not understanding you. Whenever you save a document it always goes into a folder somewhere - there is nowhere else it can go. It can go into a folder named "Word Documents" or "Word" if you wish, but otherwise I don't get what you mean by saving it in Word.

Excuse me if I'm somehow missing something basic here - it can happen LOL.
EDIT: Maybe it's some Windows 10 thing I've not run into.
