Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, 2.1 GHz / 2941 MB
I tried to open my Works Calendar and it said I needed to reinstall Works so I went to Microsoft @home page and it said to go through the control panel, add and remove programs, click on uninstall and follow directions. I figured a page would come up asking to remove or repair but it didn't. Now I need to know how to reinstall Works 9 back on my computer without buying it. It came preinstalled so I don't have a disc but I do have recovery discs that they made for me when I bought the computer. PLEASE HELP!!!

I do have recovery discs that they made for me when I bought the computer.

You may be able to get the complete pkg off the recovery discs, but I do not have the knowledge to help you in that area.

You could try and ask your question in the Windows Vista forum there may be someone there who could help.

Sorry.

Two thing you could try:

On the Windows Task Bar:
first select Tools - Folder Options - View
and select Show All Hidden Files
then un-check: Hide protected system files
and also: Hide extensions of known file types

Next go to the \Windows\Installer folder.
In the \Windows\Installer browse all the MSI files which are Windows Installer Packages and look for the installer for Microsoft Works.
If you find it click on it and it should proceed with the setup of Microsoft Works

If that does not work, one other option:

Click the Start button
Select Programs
Select Accessories
Click on Command Prompt
A small DOS type window should appear,
on the command line enter:

DIR /S C:\WORKS9.MSI

this will search your hard drive for the file.
I'm not 100% sure of the file name so you could also do use the command:

DIR /S C:\*.MSI

This will return all the MSI files it finds.

If both options fail, give Microsoft a call and explain what happened, they may be able to offer some assistance.
You will probably need all the numbers off your computer.

Ok, I did the first part of your post and found the installer package for works but as it starts to gather required info, it asks for the Works 9 disc and I didn't get a disc. And it comes up with an error code 1706. It was preloaded. The command prompt part of your answer didn't work either. Any more ideas? I might just have to call microsoft like you said. Thanks again.
