Specs: Windows 7
Hi

I have recently purchase Windows Office 2010. While trying to convert some files from Office 97 I get the following message:

"Cannot be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify the file location is correct. If you are trying etc..."

I no longer have Office 97 installed in my PC. Iam running Windows 7 64 bit.

Advice appreciated.

Thanks.

Janet

It's Microsoft Office 2010, not Windows Office 2010.

What do you mean when you say you were "trying to convert" the files? What process were you following?

Sorry, first post here! When I opened other.xls files I had the choice of using Excel Compatability Mode to convert them to .xlsx files - they open fine. However I have some .xls files that I can neither open nor delete (and I wasn't in preview mode). Delete would be fine. Hope this makes it clearer.

If deleteing them is fine, why not just open the folder where they reside and delete them using the normal Windows file deletion steps?

Could it be that you are trying to open them through the Recent Files method and they are no longer where Excel thinks they are?

My problem was that I was unable to delete or open them! Your suggestion that I might have been opening them in Recent Files and Excel couldn't find them was spot on.

Thanks for taking the time to offer a solution.
