How do I create a formula to calculate and percentages and then format?

Im trying to create a fairly complex percentage formula to track inventory. The goal is to mark my current spare count if it falls below 3% of the total units that I have deployed.

If column E is the number I have in deployed and column F is the number I have spared, I need F to format if it falls below 3 % of E.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

✔ Best Answer
Use the Conditional Formatting feature with this rule:

=F1/E1<0.03

Whenever that formula is TRUE, the Conditional Formatting that you choose will be applied.

Obviously you'll need to modify the cell references to match your requirements.

That works perfectly! Thank you very much. How do I apply it to all cells in the column starting at F3 on?

How do I apply it to all cells in the column starting at F3 on?

Try this:

1) Select your cell or range of cells: F3:F999
2) On the ribbon click Conditional Formatting
3) Click on New Rules, it’s near the bottom of the dialog box.
4) Click Use Formula to determine which cells to format.
5) Enter the formula:

=F1/E1<0.03

6) Click on the Format button
7) Select the Fill Tab
8) Select a pretty color
9) Click OK
10) Click OK
