Solved How do I get blank cells ignored if no value in a cel

August 3, 2014 at 06:11:02
Specs: Windows 8.1
Trying to get a list of dates to insert the day (short version) into a spreadsheet, but if a date is not present I want it to insert a blank.

Formula currently put into B3 =TEXT(C3,"ddd") with C3 having the date entered as 08/01/15.

This formula works fine i.e B3 = Thu and C3 = 08/01/15

I need it to then, when I copy the formula down to the following cells, to leave the 'day' (B3) blank if there is no date in C3.

I am sure this must be easy, but I can't work it out! Please help!

✔ Best Answer
Try one of these:

=IF(C3="","",TEXT(C3,"ddd"))
or
=IF(ISBLANK(C3),"",TEXT(C3,"ddd")

IF C3 is blank, will return an empty cell
