Solved How do I convert notepad document to word

Many of my Word documents now open in Notepad. When the document is in Notepad it is obviously a Word document. If I open the document from within Word the document is as it should be. So I save from Word, but it stays as a Notepad document. I'm at a loss as to what to do now?

Thanks a bunch, Uncle Dewey

"Many of my Word documents now open in Notepad"

Many or all? Do you have file extensions enabled so you can tell a .DOC file from a .DOCX file. The only reason I can think of it being "many" instead of "all" is that you somehow changed the program (app) association - one file type is set to open with Word, the other type is set to open with Notepad.

Right click on file, select Properties; if it doesn't say Word next to "Opens with", click the Change button.

Thanks Rider. If I open the file with Word, and then save it with "docx" rather then "doc" it is saved as a Word document.

Again thanks a bunch, Uncle Dewey
