How do export Windows Mail contacts?

January 20, 2017 at 16:39:33
Specs: Windows 10, Intel i5 3.2GHz 8.0Bg
Background. I am helping a friend with his email. He is currently using the Mail package in W10 but is unhappy. Today I tried to download WLM but could not do that as it is no longer available. (I have since found a possible way using the offline installer.) So I downloaded and all seems to be working well except...

Key problem. I need to transfer his address/contacts/people file from W10 Mail to Outlook. In the past this has been easy via commands such as Export/csv etc. However, I cannot find a way of exporting his contacts file. Furthermore, when I look at the Import part of Outlook, there is no obvious way of importing except from other email packages - with no reference to importing a csv file.

Can anyone help me solve these two export/import problems?

It would have been much easier if you used a commercial email client software (eg Microsoft Office Outlook that you install on a PC rather than using free email which has far fewer migration options.

The following might help.

Otherwise you'll have to manually rebuild the contact list from scratch.

I have always used the commercial Microsoft Office Outlook in conjunction with the email service provided by my ISP.

Office Outlook has more options and features than any of the free stuff has, so I know it's very unlikely I'll want to migrate to something else anyway - - no point.

Plus, mail provided by an ISP is much more secure and spam is filtered out at their end.

Thanks for your reply, Phil.

I confess I was getting a bit muddled with outlook as in the Office programs and
I was assuming I would be downloading Outlook as part of the MS Office suite as my friend has Word and Excel, but I must have accessed which I may best describe as looking a bit like W10 Mail rather than the MS Outlook programs which had “proper” toolbars at the top with all the usual import/export mail/contact capabilities.

So assuming, therefore that its, I still would like to know how to export the contacts details associated with his W10 Mail program, please. Does that make sense?

If he does not have access to MS Office Outlook, I think I have found a way of still downloading Windows Live Mail by doing it "offline"

With Windows Live Mail open, you should be able to click Contacts, then click Export to export to a csv file. Have you tried that? Alternatively, you may need to click on Tools, Windows Contacts, Export, then follow the prompts to save as a csv file.

Thanks for your response, beachyhbt, but I've imported and exported from WLM on may occasions as I help a number of people set up new PCs.

Any thoughts on exporting from theW10 Mail program, which is the real issue., would be appreciated.
