Specs: Windows XP
I need to lock different columns in Microsoft Excel 2007. I'm able to lock one column, but when I try to unprotect and lock another one, the first column gets unprotected.

Please help

Hey Thanks Manshu S,

I think I phrased my request wrong! My bad.
I want to prevent others from editing certain columns in my worksheet, e.g there are two columns with fifty lines that I need them to insert figures into. The third column is a guide column that they MUST NOT EDIT!(of course you will get those that disregard that instruction, even if it is bold 30 inch letters.) The next three columns are for their info, and the forth, a guide, and so on.
I've managed to lock one cell, but I'm really losing it!!!!!

Please explain the steps you are using. Locking multiple columns should not be an issue.

To lock only specific columns (or ranges) you would need to:

1 - Unlock all cells via Format...Cells...Protection tab. Uncheck the Locked box.
2 - Select the ranges you want to Lock
3 - Format...Cells...Protection tab. Check the Locked box
4 - Protect the sheet
