F8 Key wont highlight

October 31, 2011 at 10:56:01
Specs: Windows 7 HE
The F8 debug key in the VBA editor won't highlight in yellow as it usually does when you press F8. I see the arrow on the left hand side of the pane but the line is not highlighted. What could have caused this to happen?

In the VBE you can turn off the highlighting under:

Tools...Options...Editor Format Tab...Execution Point Text...Background

Another test besides F8 would be place a syntax error in some code and then try to run it.

For example...

Put this in a sheet module and select any cell. When the Compile Error pops up, click OK and the first line (Private Sub...) should be highlighted. If that works but F8 still doesn't highlight the Execution Point, then I'll be as confused as you are.

I assume you've restarted your computer since this began, right?

Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
iff target =4 then end sub
End Sub

Thanks Derbydad I think you solved my dilemma. The problem is with my computer at home. However, I tested your hypothesis and I think you are very likely right in your prognosis. The Execution Point Text has probably been blanked out causing it to not display the yellow background.

Thanks for your help.

I'd love know how it got turned off in your VBE. In all my years of playing around with VBA I have never changed any of the settings under that options tab.

In fact, I had to go looking around after I read your question to see if such an option even existed. It certainly does not seem to be something that you could accidentally changed by a haphazard click of the mouse.
