Solved Excel: Only keep data found in brackets

Specs: Windows 7, e6850/4GB
I have a whole slew of cells that looks like this:

(1) / Word)
(2) / Words)
(3/3) / More-words)
(4/4) / Even more words)
(A) / Words)
(B) / Many-words)
(A1/B1) / Words/Words/Words)

All I need is an excel macro that I can put in the column next to it, so only the characters in the brackets are shown. Using the example above, the new column would look like:

1
2
3/3
4/4
A
B
A1/B1

First, let's get the terminology right.

re: "I need is an excel macro that I can put in the column"

A macro can not be "put in the column". A macro is group of instructions that is stored in the VBA editor. The macro can place values/text/formulas etc. in the column, but the macro itself is not "put in the column".

That said, based on the example data you have provided, you do not need a macro. You can extract the text between the brackets with 2 built-in Excel functions: MID and FIND.

=MID(A1,2,FIND(")",A1)-2)

If you need an explanation on how that works, just let us know.

Woops! Sorry, I meant to say "formula."

And that worked PERFECTLY! Thankyou!

You are welcome.

Now, the next question is: Do you know how it works?

Copying and Pasting is fine, but Copying, Pasting and Understanding is so much better.

When you understand how a "nested" formula works, it gets the brain thinking about other ways to use nesting techniques such as using one Excel function to create the argument for another function.
