Solved Excel - Input letter, output number (currency)

June 12, 2013 at 03:25:02
Specs: Windows 7
I have a list of items of clothing that people have purchased in different sizes. Small (S) and medium (M) both cost one price (£8.55), and childrens sizes Age 11/12 and Age 12/13 cost a different price (£7.45). Is there a formula that will show the different prices rather than inputting them all manually?

✔ Best Answer
Set up a table where the first column is the size and the second column is the price.

      C D
1 S 8.55
2 M 8.55
3 etc.
4 etc.

Then use VLOOKUP.

= VLOOKUP(A1,$C$1:$D$4,2,0)

This will lookup the value from A1 in the table and return the corresponding price.
