Hello, Can someone please tell me why this is giving me a 'formula parse error'?

=IF(ISBLANK(I6),ʺblankʺ,((((I6-I5)*2.3))+(((J6-J5)*0.26))))

Thanks.

Did you perhaps write the formula in Word? It's your smart quotes that Excel does not like.

and why all the parenthesis, this works just as well

=IF(ISBLANK(I6),"blank",((I6-I5)*2.3)+((J6-J5)*0.26))

Many thanks for that. I had written the formula in Notepad. Didn't notice that!! :-)

Just curious... What version of Excel are you using? I get an error because of the quotes, but it's the generic "The formula you typed contains an error" message.

I don't recall ever seeing a "formula parse error" in any version I've ever used.

I believe that the "formula parse error"is a Google incantation and is not native to Excel.MIKE

Thanks! (Short Message

The message that you entered is too short to be helpful. Please add more information before posting. It must be at least 4 words long.)Apparently we are not allowed to just says "Thanks". ;-)

Hi DerbyDad03, mmcconaghy In fact I was using the online version (Google Sheets).

Cheers

Thanks for the verification but... I don't think I would use the words "the online version (Google Sheets)" which implies that Google Sheets is an online version of Excel.

Google Sheets is indeed an on-line spreadsheet application, but it is certainly not Excel.
