excel copy paste bizarre error

Microsoft Excel 2010
April 11, 2012 at 09:14:28
Specs: Windows 7
I have developed a very strange error. When using Excel 2010; and copying the machine behaves strangely.

Say I want to copy a cell or range of cells, even within the same worksheet - I highlight the selection; and hit ctrl-c. The clipping mask flashes briefly; but doesn't persist like it used to.

when hitting ctrl-v; it pastes - but values only; not any formulas.

Paste Special offers a hint - it gives me the text options, unicode/unformatted text - almost as if it thinks the source cells are from a different file type. Even if this is attempted within the SAME worksheet!

No systems running in the background except for the usual workplace anti-virus etc. Any ideas?

Have you tried a Repair:

Go to Start
Control Panel
Program & Features (That's the old Add Programs)
Select MS program, but DO NOT double click, simply select it.
On the Task Bar near the top you should be given the option to Change/Repair.

Hi,

I also have since +/- two monts the same symptoms and even more:
- I have the copy/paste problem in all Office programs
- When I open a second and third document, say in Word, the newly opened document opens "behind" the first opened document
- Sometimes, I want to scroll in Excel and instead of scrolling from cell to cell, the cursor remains on the same cell, and instead the whole spreadsheet moves.

And on top of that, this seems to be an intermittent problem: sometimes it is there and sometimes everything works well.

I have the impression it is a memory problem, sometimes it works well after a restart, but comes up after a short while.

After re-installation of Office, the problems remain.

If anyone would have the same problems and found a solution?

Rgds, Kristo

Hi all, the repair worked for a short while; and then the problem resurfaced. I've also tried the reinstall; but no permanent solution seems to exist.

Kristo - as for your issues; I've only noticed it over excel; but then I almost exclusively work on excel. The scrolling issue sounds like scroll lock.

I'm baffled; but living with a repair a day - that seems to keep it in check.
