Excel - adding a cell reference to a formula from text

Microsoft Excel 010 - complete package

Specs: Windows 7
I have a spreadsheet in which data will be pasted on a daily basis. The amount of data will vary each day. I am using COUNTA(B1:B5000) to determine how many entries there are for a given day.
I then need to do a count of Blanks in column C to determine how many entries were incomplete.

I know the formula needed to count the blanks is COUNTBLANK(C1:Cx), what I need to know is how to get it to import the X from the results of column B's count.

I am willing to try different methods if anyone can suggest some that will provide the results that I'm looking for.

Read the Excel Help files or DAGS on the INDIRECT function.

If A1 contains COUNTA(B1:B5000) try:

=COUNTBLANK(INDIRECT("C1:C" & A1))

Note the quotes around "C1:C". They are required because the INDIRECT function requires a text string.
