copy and paste formula will not work

suddenly I am unable to copy and paste a formula in a cell to a new sheet. Nor can I copy and paste a formula one row down from the original formula. example A1 has formula of sum(d1:f1) when I try copy paste formula in a1 to b1 it does not copy over.

What version of Excel? What does happen, if anything, when you copy/paste?

Have you tried Copy / Paste Special / Formula?

Do you have Skype or have recently installed Skype?

MIKE

I have 2007. Sample

1 2 3 4 = 10 If the simple formula is =sum(a1:a4) then the # 10 is the answer.

When I try to copy the cell where the -sum(a1:a4) is in and paste to the next cell

below and so forth it does not copy the formula it copies the number 10.

it does not copy the formula it copies the number 10

So in effect, it is doing a Copy / Paste / Values?Try running a Diagnostic:

Running Microsoft Office Diagnostics from within Excel/Word

Click the Microsoft Office button

Click on the Excel/Word Options button to bring up the Excel Options dialog box (at the bottom of window)

Click on the Resources button in the left hand pane

Click on the Diagnose button in the right hand pane

Click Continue

Click Run DiagnosticsRunning Microsoft Office Diagnostics from the Start Menu

Click on the Start button

Click All Programs

Click Microsoft Office folder

Click Microsoft Office Tools

Click Microsoft Office Diagnostics

Click Continue

Click Run DiagnosticsSee if that helps.

It worked...ran the diagnostic and indicated there was one problem...hopefully that was the problem. I tried c/p on two different spreadsheets and is now working...fingers crossed...thanks very, very much

Hi unfortunatly i have not the office tools then i do know how to find where can I have the problem you solved. Nevertheless I have installed skype, and my excel is version 2003. FYI After I´ve unistalled SKIPE, the copy function works perfect.

Thanks for your clues.

When I said earlier that I ran the diagnostic and it seemed to fix the copy/paste problem, it did until I re-booted the next day. Now I am going to uninstall SKYPE as the person above (Iamicomputing) did. I'm curious tho' if it works for me - what does Skype have to do with Excel? Thanks

Don't know what the problem is between Skype & Office but it causes problems. See here for another example:

Hi Mike I will try uninstalling SKYPE tomorrow when in the clinic...thanks for yur quick reply...this site is fabulous and thanks for the advice......

In the quoted thread the OP said:

I discovered that the cause was an older version of SkypeClicktoCall.exe program. You may not have to uninstall Skype, just try doing an update of the Click to Call program first and see if that cures your problems.

If not, then try the uninstall.MIKE

Mike thanks for your new help, in coming days i'll try to reinstall full skipe aplication and test if the copy problems still are solved or not. I hope can help us.

Mike - it worked, it worked....phew after a month of fooling around with this. Still wonder why Skype does this. I now have all of my formulas and can copy/paste and do whatever it is I do for our financials...thanks so much.!!

Yes Skype was creating problem for me to.... but know everything is ok after uninstalling Skype
