Excel 2010 format question

March 25, 2013 at 23:36:53
Specs: Windows 7
I am trying to create a very simple calculation and I continue to hit a brick wall. I want to create a simple monthly calendar, using dates. In between each date, I want to have a series of open rows for other items I might want to add. For some frustrating reason, I can't create this. HELP! Thank you.....

Your post is confusing in so many ways.

"I am trying to create a very simple calculation and I continue to hit a brick wall. I want to create a simple monthly calendar, using dates."

What do you mean by "create a calculation"? What are you calculating? What "brick wall" are you hitting?

"In between each date, I want to have a series of open rows for other items I might want to add. For some frustrating reason, I can't create this. "

What happens when you try to "create this"? Keep in mind that we can't see your spreadsheet from where we're sitting. What are you doing and what is happening when you try to do it?

HELP! Thank you.....

We can't help unless you give us the details regarding what you are trying to do.

I am very grateful for your quick repsonse, thank you! My brick wall is another word for being unsuccessful (sorry). Hopefully I do a better job describing need. I am building a weekly calendar so I am starting in A1 with date or 3/17/2013. Then went down 7 rows and wanted to add 6 days to the date (start the next week) so I added =A1+7. It copied fine, or in other words gave me my desired outcome-March 23. Then I tried to copy it again, and I get the options of paste, value, formula, transpose, formatting or link but I don't get my desired (simple) 6 days later. After spending time on your site, i thought I might have a corrupted file because I was getting the date of 1900. Again, I hope this is a little clearer or at least get us to the next conversation. Many thanks!

"I am starting in A1 with date or 3/17/2013"

Me too.

Then went down 7 rows and wanted to add 6 days to the date (start the next week)...

That would put you in A8

...so I added =A1+7.

If I wanted to add 6 days I would use =A1+6

It copied fine...

Copied? I don't see where you did in copying.

...or in other words gave me my desired outcome-March 23

3/17/2013 + 7 = 3/24/2013

I don't know how you got 3/23 if you added 7 to 3/17.

Then I tried to copy it again, and I get the options of paste, value, formula, transpose, formatting or link but I don't get my desired (simple) 6 days later

Maybe that's because you either added the wrong number (7 vs. 6) or you pasted the formula into the wrong cell.

I right-clicked A8 and chose Copy. I then right-clicked A15 (7 rows down) and chose Paste. I now have =A8+7 in the cell and it displays 3/31/2013.

I think you have a problem with your 6's and 7's. If you used =A1+7, then you must Paste into cells that are 7 Rows apart (6 blank rows in between) or you will get the wrong result.

If you used =A1+6, then you must Paste into a cell 6 Rows apart (5 blank rows in between) or you will get the wrong results.
