Solved Excel 2010 file cannot open

January 25, 2017 at 03:24:55
Specs: Windows 10, Pentium 4 2GHz / 4 gigs.
Hello!
There is an Excel file which I cannot open. When I try to open this file I get this message:

"cannot open the file because the file format or the file extension is invalid. Make sure the file is not corrupted and the file name extension matches the format".

What does that mean? the file was created in Excel 2010. Is there a solution for this problem?

Maybe you should try to use the utility Excel Recovery Toolbox for excel recovery? maybe it will help to restore at least some of the information. https://www.oemailrecovery.com/exce...

If none of the solutions from Microsoft

https://support.office.com/en-us/ar...

have worked you can try opening the file with
either LibreOffice or OpenOffice, this has on occasion worked.

try replacing the extension to .xlsx .xlsm .xls .xlm and see if it opens with any of those extensions

Simple solutions are often the best

That file is beyond repair. I changed the extension to .XLS and forced it to open up and there is just gibberish inside of it. Do you have a backup or older version you can go back to?
