Don't save them that way??

Sorry, couldn't resist.

.csv and .txt files are usually opened via notepad or wordpad, Excel is not the default selection.

Select one of you .csv files, right click, select properties and see what the Opens With selection is set at.

Thanks for your comment. It's not that simple I'm afraid! Actually I can't open ANY csv or text files. Including those saved years ago. Computer suddenly decided to refuse to open any a couple of weeks ago. Have un-installed any updates installed (computer was doing it automatically - now switched off). Have looked at properties. No joy.
Was wondering if there's anything in settings - have looked but can't see anything even vaguely obvious. Otherwise - maybe something to do with security settings? Norton?
All a bit strange!

You get no error message?

Have you tried downloading a different text editor like Jedit or Notepad++ ?

Do you have a malware protection program, like Malwarebytes?

Hi,

when you say Computer suddenly decided to refuse to open any
Does this mean that when you right-click one of these files, there is no option to open them with any program.

Or did you mean that these files would not open when double clicked.

If you select and right-click a *.txt file are there any options available.

Whatever the problem, do not turn off automatic updates - many of these updates patch security holes. If one of these updates stopped csv or txt files opening, millions of people would likely know about it!

Regards

No error message. If in excel, I click on the file I want to open - the icon goes to 'working' mode for half a second, and then goes back to normal. Nothiing else happens.
I can open any csv file in notepad - but need to open them in excel.
.
Am good with excel models, but crap with computer set-up so forgive me if I don't know the answer to some questions (like "have you got malaware")! Anyway - will look into it.
Thanks for your help...

To get malware protection download Malwarebytes here:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

It's free.

Have you tried to Import the .csv files?

On the task bar,
Data,
Get External Data
Import

See if that will read the .csv file.

How are the .csv files being created, if you know?
