When I am using autofilter in Excel 2003, the drop down list isn't sorted. How can I sort the drop down list?

Hi,

Can you explain in what way it is not sorted and include an example.

I have used the AutoFilter in Excel 2003 for many years, and the list is always sorted, as far as I can see.

Regards

This is what I see when I click the Autofilter arrow. Note how the numbers go 119 to 780 in numberical order, then after 780, you see 110 thru 775. I need these to be in numerical order.

Sort Ascending
Sort Descending
(All)
(Top 10…)
(Custom)
119
132
141
142
143
147
150
721
758
780
110
130
144
726
775

Hi,

The problem is not with the Auto Filter drop-down.

It is likely that the 'numbers' 110 to 775 are actually text that looks like numbers.

The drop down has sorted numbers before text.

If your list of numbers starts in cell A2, enter this in cell B2:
=Value(A2)
Drag this formula down alongside all your list of numbers.
Now copy these cells in column B
Select cell A2 and 'Paste Special...' and select Values and click OK
You can now delete the formulas in column B.

Test your auto filter again.

Hope this works!
