Excel 2003 Autofilter does not work

June 12, 2012 at 08:39:08
Specs: Windows XP
Hi
I'm trying to use Autofilter in a 2003 excel spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet has about 5000 lines of data but not complex and no Pivot tables etc.
When autofilter hits a blank cell it seems to stop filtering.
Any ideas?

When autofilter hits a blank cell

Is it just a single cell or is it the whole row?

A single cell should not matter, a whole does.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your response
The cells are random across the spreadsheet, sometimes in blocks and sometimes single cells.
I'm filtering on columns. I have tried to fill blanks with a characters but that has not solved the problem. Its Excel 2003 and about 5000 rows of data and 20 columns but only dates (in columns) and text (in columns) not mixed. I'm trying to filter on dates mostly but does on work on text either.
Regards
Patrick

only dates (in columns) and text (in columns)

Are you getting this data from another application?

Make sure your DATES are really dates, often times when importing
the data, Dates do not get recognized and are treated as TEXT by Excel.

Also, in your TEXT columns make sure there are no stray unprintable
characters included.

You can use the =TRIM() & =CLEAN() functions to clear them out.
Something like: =TRIM(CLEAN(A1))

Also, make sure your BLANKS are really empty, which may have
the same problem as TEXT.
