drop down link

September 1, 2011 at 01:16:03
Specs: Windows XP
i have a problem with the following....

i have set up a drop down list that i would like to switch between three groups. i had no problem with that. next to it is a column for a price total so it looks like this...

A B
1 x R100
2 x R20
3 y R30
4 x R20
5 z R60

(the x, y, z is determined by my drop down selection.)

in a different location in the sheet i want the following..

x R140
y R30
z R60

but if i change anything in the drop down menu to something else i want the totals to change automatically.

hope this makes sense, and that you could help>>>

Now, as to your post...

re: "hope this makes sense"

Not to me, in so, so many ways.

Let's start with your drop down...or is it drop downs? Here's why I ask:

You say i have set up a drop down list - singluar.

Then you say the x, y, z is determined by my drop down selection.

Does that mean you have a drop down in each cell in A1:A5?

Then you say "next to it is a column for a price total so it looks like this"

I want to assume that column B is your "price total" but why do the values start with an R?

Following that you posted this table:

x R140
y R30
z R60

I don't see an R140 next to any x in your first table, so how is the second table related to the first?

Finally, you say "if i change anything in the drop down menu to something else i want the totals to change automatically"

What do you mean by "something else" and what do you want the "totals" to change to?

Keep in mind that we can't see your spreadsheet from where we're sitting nor can we read minds, so you have to be very specific in how you word your posts.
