Solved Data validation - Autoprompt data when we type

Hi All,

I have an issue which I have to fix urgently, below are the details;

In an excel file, I was given has a drop-down list created using data validation. Let us assume that the validation list consists of Months (Jan to Dec) listed. How to fix it in such a way that when I start typing something from the list it auto-populates for example; When I type 'S' it should auto prompt for September, instead of me scrolling down the list. The original data list I have is very long.

However, it is prompting me the second time I repeat something from the list and not the first time.

Is there any way to fix it without Macros? A lot of google searches suggested Combo Box.

Please advise/suggest, any help is appreciated.

Since the data is sensitive and confidential. I had to make up this example of months.

Thank you

As far as I know, a Data Validation drop down list does not allow for autocomplete. In fact, I am going to wager that it is not prompting you the second time that you begin to repeat a choice.

I would wager that what you are seeing is the standard Excel feature where it will suggest an entry from the same column if it notices that the user is typing the same letters again. In other words, the suggestion is not coming for the list of drop down entries, it is coming from a previous cell that already contains that string.

The combo box method may be your only option. See here:
