Creating a detailed counter in Excel

Specs: Windows XP
Hello, I am VERY much a beginner when it comes to Excel (I would need step-by-step directions). I am trying to make a counter that starts from the current date, to go to December 1st, 2012 at 1000. I'd like it to include months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. And if there's a way to do it so I can send it to somebody, and it will be accurate every time you open it. I am currently using MS Excel 2007. I appreciate all advise and help that anyone can provide. Thank you!

I assume you want a count down timer, correct? As in, how many months, days, etc. until Dec 1 at 10:00am, right?

Will the sheet be used for anything, such as calculations, data entry, etc?

The problem is that Excel can't do more than one thing at a time so there is no way for the timer to run smoothly if the application is doing other things.

Please give us some details as to what you are trying to do.

Yes, a count-down timer. And no, it won't be used for anything else....just to view the remaining time.
