Solved Copy & paste a cell value depends on date

August 22, 2011 at 22:28:29
Specs: Windows XP
I wanted to have a solution for this problem. I am trying to make a business report for my own use. In that I wanted to update the previous days revenue automaticaly from another sheet. The rule is “if cell ‘X’ is fed with a certain digit, (say 1) the value in cell ‘A’ to be copied & pasted in cell ‘Y’
similarly if the value in cell ‘X’ changes to digit 2 then the value in cell ‘B’ to be copied & pasted in cell ‘Y’
again, if the value in cell ‘X’ changes to digit 3 then the value in cell ‘C’ to be copied & pasted in cell ‘Y’ like this 31 conditions to be applied in cell ‘Y’

The purpose is when the dates are fed in a particular cell, the value from a corresponding cell from another sheet to be copied & pasted in a different cell. This will be a great favor if some one can help me in this regard. I am not from an IT background but still can manage excell well.

What are you really asking for: the contents of cell Y to be based on digits or based on dates?

For digits, you could something like the INDEX function:

With 1, 2 or 3 in A1, this would return the value in A2, B2, or C2 since the value in A1 would be used as the column_num argument:

=INDEX($A$2:$C$2,1,A1)

If you are really looking to return a value from a column based on a date, you could use one of many different functions, including:

=INDEX(A2:D2,1,DAY(A1))

Where DAY(A1) would return the Day number of the date in A1 and use that as the column_num argument.

The more specific you are with your request, the more specific we can be with a suggestion.
