Convert old MS Word and Displaywrite files

November 1, 2010 at 20:32:56
Specs: Windows XP professional SP3, 3.24 GB RAM
I was good. I saved documents starting in the late 80's on various floppy disks. Used Displaywrite, MS Word, Lotus 123 and more, on the then current MS operating systems. I have not paid attention to changing coding of work files.
I need to recover and convert a good number of these files. What software is available / recommended for a computer running on Windows XP / Office XP Professional?
Is there a suggested format for similar documents to be accessible in the future? Can we count on Adobe to be in use for the next 20 years??

For converting your Displaywrite files see here:

About half way down the page: RFT/DCA converter for Word - 84kb - Displaywrite text converter

For Lotus 123 see here:

Is there a suggested format for similar documents to be accessible in the future?

Plain ASCII text files,
They may not be pretty, but you should be able to read them as far into the future as I would care to go.
