You can't make a file compatible with a different application just by changing the filename extension. You either need to get hold of a converter or ask the person who sent you the file to open it again in ClarisWorks at their end and save it as a Microsoft Word for PC document, then send you the new file.

✔ Best Answer
word opened it but with some gobbledigook at top and bottom.

That is probably the formatting instructions that ClarisWorks used,
font type, line spacing, paragraph marks, etc. etc.

If you need to actually convert the file, then it is my understanding that
AbiWord (Freeware) has a plugin that will convert.

When I received the file, I searched the web for an answer and found nothing but a trial shareware program as the answer. I then changed the extension and Word did open it. As the thread with the shareware answer had closed, I used this forum to put up an alternative work-around. I understood that the gobbledegook was the formatting etc., but the text was all there.
