Comparing one word to a range of words

Microsoft Office excel 2007 - upgrade

Specs: Windows 7
I already accomplished this in 2007, but cannot do it in excel 2003 because it has too many operands (if statements I believe).

What I have is a list of words in Column A on sheet 1(Portfolio Allocation):

on sheet 2 (Master Tickers Sheet) I have a table that has row headings of
[A1]"Cash / Equivalents"
[C1]"Indexed Annuities"
[D1]"Fixed Annuities"
[E1]"Gold / Silver"

In each row, I have several ticker symbols that are within that asset class, for example:

[E1] "Gold / Silver" [E2] CEF [E3] GTU

What I want to do is compare the tickers in column A from worksheet 1, to see if it is found in one of the rows on worksheet 2, if it is found I want it to return the heading to column B in sheet 1, if it is not found move to the next row and search again. Each row on sheet 2 has 6 columns of possible tickers.

for example if the Ticker was CEF in column [A1] of sheet 1, then it was go through the IF statements until it finds cell [E2] and then return "Gold / Silver" to column B1

I know this is confusing (I wrote a bunch of IF(OR( statements to try to match it to each individual cell, but this is exhausting and can't transfer to excel 2003 b/c of the number of statements)
