can't install office 2000 on windows 7

April 17, 2011 at 08:05:58
Specs: Windows 7, 4 GB
Hi Tom:

Okay, I've tried to install Office 2000 on Win 7, as done on XP. As usual, it ask's for an earlier version for verification, as does 7, but always worked. However, when attempting to do the same on 7, it says it needs the (CTL3D32.DLL) even though I'm using a 64bit. No matter the many combinations I've tried, it continues to repeat the 1608 error. I'm also unable to apprehend the CTL3D32.DLL, as I'm sure you already know it's nearly impossible to acquire.

Please tell me I don't need a new Office...

According to the Win 7 Compatibility site Office 2000 is not supported by Win 7, see here:

For the ctl3d32.dll see here:

Another EDIT:

You are loading it as a 32 bit program, not a 64 bit, correct?

I suppose it's saying I need a 32bit dll before it will take with the way it showed as a 32bit installation. However, I am using a 64bit if that makes any sense?

I'm a bit fractured that it won't take with Win 7 as is or if I can somehow get it to think I'm using a 32bit, which may require me to do things different to install it?

I appreciate the link for the 32bit dill and I hope it will install to the correct place for a proper recognition to install?

Looking at the link sent for that specific missing dll was appreciated; however, It did not show a download button to grab it. Instead, it led to a page offering a free scan to see what dll's are missing, when we already know the missing dll.

Scanning for missing dll's is nothing more then a gimmick. Should you ever swallow their bate and do the scan, you're then offered the dll, but for a price even though it says free at the beginning...leading you to another dead end.

So, the link offered was another dead end.

I don't have Win 7, but it's my understanding that there is an XP emulation software that you could possibly use.

I would ask over in the Win 7 forum.

I appreciate the input MM, but without going through more brain damage I'm sure that if I can find a solution for the missing dll file will help remedy the issue. If not, I'll look elsewhere. Thus far, I'm a bit surprised they would lead me to a page that offers the dll, but you must first run their scan and after which, you must buy their product...another gimmick. Nothings free!

When you go to this page:

On the bottom lower right side there is an option for a Free Download
at the bottom of the box there is the line that reads:
Go to the download page for CTL3D32.DLL
Click on that line

You will be taken to another page, just click on the line that reads
Download ctl3d32.dll

Your download window should open, just save the file to somewhere you can
get at it.
