Specs: Windows 7, Pentium 4 2GHz / 4 gigs.
I cannot open my word file(Office 2007) from my thumb drive. When I open the document it says -Word was unable to read this document. It may be corrupt. Try one or more of the following : *Open and Repair the file - *Open the file with the Text Recovery converter.........
Tried installing Office2007 SP3, tried to open in word 2010 but still the same problem. Is there any solution to solve this problem and to do docx recovery? Thanks.

I would try to open the file on another computer if that is possible, which you may have already done from reading your question.
I have a feeling the file is corrupted or damaged in some way.

There are a number of file recovery programs available for example as WordRecoveryToolbox or other. Try searching google.com with the phrase: “repair corrupt Word files”.
Good Luck.

mmm Thumb drives/flash drive/usb sticks (and SSD cards) are not the most secure or reliable for storage; unless one has another copy of the contents elsewhere... They are really meant to be portable, short term storage devices only.

Unless one of the other regulars here can come up with a how to.. I suspect you are out of luck in recovering the files.

Meahwile I found this amongst other hits via a google trawl:

I used the search term/string:

word was unable to read this document. it may be corrupt

- and got a slew of hits including the one above... Perhaps repeat my google trawl and see if any of the hits work for you?

Have you tried the Open and Repair option?

It might just barely be possible that you may be able to save the data in the document, see this HOW-TO:

http://www.computing.net/howtos/sho...

I have never tried it on a thumb drive, but it's worth a shot.
I would be interested in how it goes for you.
