Microsoft Excel home and student 2010 so...
August 25, 2010 at 06:49:58
Specs: Windows Vista, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU and Ram 4.00 GB
I have been using these files from my dvd-rw for sometime and have not had any problems suddenly i receive the following:-
Microsoft excel cannot access the file 'E:\CC5D3000' there are several possible reasons:-
1) The file path or name does not exist.
2) The file is being used by another program.
3) The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a current open workbook.
I don't have any other excel programs open and it's certainly not being used by another program and it;s the only file with it's name. I'm not able to save my data as i did before.

Try running a Diagnostic, not sure about 2010, but on 2007 it's:

Running Microsoft Office Diagnostics from within Excel

Click the Microsoft Office button

Click on the Excel Options button to bring up the Excel Options dialog box

Click on the Resources button in the left hand pane

Click on the Diagnose button in the right hand pane

Click Continue

Click Run Diagnostics

Running Microsoft Office Diagnostics from the Start Menu

Click on the Start button

Click All Programs

Click Microsoft Office folder

Click Microsoft Office Tools

Click Microsoft Office Diagnostics

Click Continue

Click Run Diagnostics

See if that helps.
You might also want to clean out any TEMP files.

Move the file to your hard drive. It may be having problems opening it from a read only device.

Yes your drive may be able to write to the disc but Excel doesn't know that.

Thanks for both these replies unfortunately applications for the Office Diagnostics Tool and Office Button do not now appear in Office 2010.The Office Button is replaced by the File Icon but the expansion does not carry the options needed.
I did however opened the Task Master upon receiving the access message and lo and behold i was shown the following:-
1) BD Rom Drive (E) showing the file name....................running
2) The file name i am working on...................................running
3) Microsoft excel non-commercial use with the same file name...........running
4) Personal.................................................................running

What i expected to see was 1) and 2) not the additional 3) and 4)
I can't understand why this is happening and i am having the same problem with the other five dvd-rw discs i am using.
How do i get over this dilemma?? HELP anyone !

The best advice I can offer is to follow THX1138's suggestion of "Move the file to your hard drive", if you can.

But from the phrase:

"Microsoft excel non-commercial use with the same file name."

You may have a stray temp file floating about, so delete all your temp files
and read this:
