# assign number to text values listed multiple

September 23, 2010 at 07:01:07
Specs: Windows XP
Hi there! I track students as they take practice tests in our program. Each student will be listed at least 5 times since there are 5 subtests and the student might take each subtest several times. I am trying to assign each student a number without having to type the number over and over for 400 students... Is there a formula that can compare c2 with c1 and if different assign number +1? If the same just repeat the number in the box above it?1 Suzy Q1 Suzy Q1 Suzy Q1 Suzy Q2 Jon A2 Jon A2 Jon A3 next student3 next student3 next student
